Two hikers are now safe after high winds stranded them in the Franklin Mountains Thursday afternoon.

The El Paso Fire Department’s COMSAR team was dispatched just after noon Thursday to Mammoth Trail off Transmountain Road.

According to emergency personnel, a man and a 10-year-old child became stranded on Mammoth Trail, near Ron Coleman trail, around 12:30 pm.

Responders said high winds at the peak of Transmountain were making the rescue difficult.

Both hikers were brought down safely and injured.
