Franklin High School athlete in ‘serious but stable’ condition following crash

Police arrested two drivers for DWI following a rollover crash that seriously injured Franklin High School student-athlete James McClain-Green Saturday night, a police spokesperson confirms to KTSM.

According to police, the two-vehicle crash happened just before 10 p.m. at the intersection of Leeds and Edinburgh in Santa Teresa, NM. 

Police say at least four people were taken to the hospital as a result of the crash. 

According to Franklin head football coach Daren Walker, McClain-Green successfully underwent two operations and remains in serious but stable condition.

“James and his family will remain in our prayers,” Walker said in a statement.

Police have not yet released the identities of those arrested. Additional charges are expected.

According to police, those involved in the crash may have been leaving a party at a home in the nearby Edgemont neighborhood.

EPISD will provide free counseling services to students at the Franklin library from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday.

Franklin High School student-athlete James McClain-Green is reportedly in critical but stable condition after being involved in a crash in Santa Teresa Saturday night.

According to a Facebook post, McClain Green underwent surgery and is “stable for now but still in critical condition.”

Franklin High School is hosting a blood drive at Basset Place Mall from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday in honor of the student.

A second drive is scheduled to take place at Franklin High School from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday.

A Franklin High School athlete is reportedly in critical condition after being involved in a serious crash Saturday night.

According to a tweet from the school, senior football player and wrestler James McClain-Green was involved in the accident.

Witnesses tell KTSM the crash happened near Edinburg and Leeds streets in Santa Teresa. Police have not yet released any information.

In 11 games this season, the varsity wide receiver has recorded 11 touchdowns and 189 receiving yards.

As KTSM previously reported, McClain-Green also took home first place in the Boys 6A UIL Wrestling State Championships in 2017 and 2018.

Several members of the El Paso sports community are taking to social media to express their thoughts and prayers.
