UPDATE: 7:19 p.m.– The El Paso Fire Department responded to a Condition 1 fire at the Lowe’s Home Improvement store in Northeast El Paso.
Batallion Chief Manuel Rodriguez told KTSM EPFD was dispatched to a report of smoke outside of the Lowe’s Wednesday afternoon.
“When units arrived we had large flames on this corner of the building units reported that the pellets turned out to be stacked fencing that ignited,” Rodriguez said.
EPFD said it was an exterior fire with no expansion to the interior of the building with no injuries.
Rodriguez said the on-duty investigator was unable to determine the cause of the fire due to the amount of damage done to the stacked fencing by the flames.
The Lowe’s was evacuated for a short period of time but EPFD allowed the store to return to normal function shortly after.
Rodriguez said the flames were extinguished within roughly ten minutes. He said they downgraded it from a Condition 1 fire with five units responding and 13 personnel.
