EPPD: Man shot in face outside NE El Paso apartments

UPDATE 8/4/2016: Police say a 31-year-old male was shot in the face and lower torso in the parking lot of his apartment complex Wednesday afternoon.

The alleged shooter, who has been identified as 55-year-old Douglas Riley, was arrested shortly after, according to police.

Police say the investigation revealed that Riley approached Adrian Nuñez, shot him, and then allegedly fired multiple shots into Nuñez’s vehicle. Three children ages 7, 8, and 10 were inside the vehicle, but they were unharmed.

Police say the victim was found on the ground and Riley was reportedly holding a gun when officers arrived.

According to police, there was no provocation for the shooting. Riley was booked into the El Paso County Detention Jail under bonds totaling $250,000 for four counts of Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon.

The investigation is stil on-going.


A man has been hospitalized after being shot at an apartment complex in northeast El Paso on Wednesday afternoon, according to Police.

Police say they responded to the call at around 3:45 p.m. on the 4600 block of Maxwell Avenue after someone called and said they had heard gun shots.

A spokesperson for the El Paso Police Department says the victim was sent to UMC in serious condition. “What they did find was one male who had been shot. The victim of gun shots wounds was transported to an area hospital and is being treated at this time.”

A male suspect was placed in custody shortly after the shots were fired, according to police.

Neighbors say they have noticed more police units patrolling the area lately, but police say neighbors are not in any danger.

Maxwell Avenue between Herbert and Marks was blocked off earlier today as police were investigating.
