EPPD: Man dies following crash, fight, medical episode

Update (6:55 p.m.) El Paso Police tell KTSM the victim was 29-year-old Kevin McCarthy.


Update (10:22 a.m. ) El Paso Police tell KTSM a man died at the hospital after a struggle and “medical episode” at the Hotel HillVue.

According to a spokesperson with the El Paso Police Department, the man, whose name has not been released, was involved in a crash around 12:30 Tuesday morning at I-10 and Executive. Police say one of the drivers left the scene.

From there, police say the man ran to the Hotel HillVue, started banging on doors, and eventually broke into one of the rooms.The guest  staying in that room got into a fight with the man who broke in, according to police.  

“There was a struggle, and during the struggle, the person involved in the hit and run crash, he suffered some kind of medical episode,” Sgt. Enrique Carrillo, El Paso Police Department said.

Police tell us the man later died at the hospital.  At this time, police say his cause of death is undetermined. 

As far as the car crash, police tell KTSM it was minor and no one was hurt.  The man who was staying at the hotel was also not hurt, according to police.


The El Paso Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons unit is investigating a death in West El Paso.

Police tweeted they were on the scene on the 500 block of Executive; this is the address to Hotel HillVue. Details are very limited at this time.
