EPPD: Hit-and-run driver that killed Autistic girl caught on surveillance cam

El Paso News

Nearly a month ago, a 12-year-old girl with Autism was hit and killed by a hit-and-run driver in Northeast El Paso.

Kianna Johnson, 12, was crossing the street in the 5600 block of Dyer near the Walmart around 1:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5 when she was struck by an unknown vehicle, possibly a dark colored cargo van.

According to investigators, Johnson had Autism and was able to get out of her home undetected the night she was struck by the vehicle.

The driver of the van did not stop to render aid and Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Crime Stoppers of El Paso is now featuring the hit-and-run in this week’s “Crime of the Week.” El Pasoans are urged to watch the video to determine if they can help identify the vehicle involved.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers of El Paso immediately at (915) 566-TIPS. If your tip leads to an arrest you may be eligible for a cash reward.
