El Paso Soldier Stationed at Fort Hood Dies

Officials at Fort Hood say that Pfc. Kai Yemale Yancey, 26, of El Paso died on New Year’s Day from complications of an illness in Temple, Texas.

Pfc. Yancey entered into active duty service on February 2015 as a motor transport operator. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas, since 2016.

He lists his home of record as El Paso, Texas but may also have had ties to Ohio.

Yancey died at Scott and White Hospital in Temple after being hospitalized for an undisclosed illness. His awards and decorations include the Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.
