Straight from the 915 to the Time 100.

El Paso’s Khalid is among the 100 most influential people in the world, according to Time Magazine

The annual list was released on Wednesday and the rising music star was listed among the artists along with Dwayne Johnson (also known as The Rock), Regina King, Ariana Grande, Joana and Chip Gaines, Brie Larson and Mahershala Ali.

The write-up on Khalid was done by Grammy Award winner Alicia Keys, who wrote: “He has a beautiful journey ahead of him, and I hope he accomplishes things he can’t even imagine yet.”

KTSM spoke with his former high school principal at Americas High School, who admits it’s a dream itself for educators to watch students go after their dreams and succeed.

“One of the big blessings that I have is just to be able to see students everyday going after their dream. To actually see it coming true for Khalid, I’m not surprised,” Principal Patricia Ferdinand Cuevas shared, “He’s just a great individual but it gives you great honor because you were a part of that, hopefully, of the person that he has become and will continue to be.”

El Paso music producers at Beacon Hill Recording Studios who worked with Khalid on his platinum hit, ‘Location’, said talent has always been here in El Paso. Alfredo Gonzalez, a music producer at Beacon Hill, shared many artists are now realizing they can acheive their dreams, “They saw another high school kid live out his dream and continue to do that and the more we see kids actually go after that and truly pursue those passions, I think we’re going to keep hearing more stories of success.”

On his debut album, “American Teen” Khalid was nominated for five Grammy awards. His second album “Free Spirit” was released on April 5 and has soared to the top of the Billboard charts.

The Time 100 is divided among pioneers (Sandra Oh, Hasan Minhaj), artists (Emilia Clarke, Glenn Close, Ozuna), leaders (Nancy Pelosi, President Donald Trump, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Justice Brett Kavanaugh), icons (Taylor Swift, Michelle Obama, Spike Lee) and Titans (Mohamed Salah, Lebron James, Tiger Woods, Mark Zuckerberg).
