Across the globe, many transgender rights advocates will celebrate a special day this weekend.
Saturday, March 31 is International Transgender Day of Visibility. Local transgender rights advocates say El Paso has come a long way in the acceptance of transgender people, but there’s still work to do.
“Being a transgender for many years, for over 32 years as an educator, I want for people not to be afraid of transgendered persons. If you’re not aware what it is, ask and educate yourself,” transgender advocate Claudia Delfin told KTSM.
The Borderland Rainbow Center located at 2417 Wyoming will hold educational workshops this weekend to celebrate the day.
The “Be-coming out and Proud” event will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday. The Rainbow Center also hosts weekly Transgender Youth and Family support groups.
