El Paso police officer relieved of duty for allegedly injuring 4-month-old son

A former officer with the El Paso Police Department is in jail for allegedly injuring his 4-month-old son.

Police arrested Carlos Mendez, a five-year-veteran with the department, on Friday and charged him with injury to child/intent to serious bodily injury.

According to a news release, the infant suffered several fractured ribs and a torn liver while in Mendez’s care.

Mendez was booked into the El Paso County Jail and was relieved of duty.
