Update: Man dead after officer-involved shooting incident in east El Paso

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 26-year-old man in dead after an officer-involved shooting in east El Paso on Sunday. 

According to the El Paso Police Department, the incident happened at the 12000 block of Autumn Gate Dr., just behind Montwood High School. Authorities said that officers had originally responded to a family violence call at 2:50 p.m. on Sunday.

The man had already left the scene by the time officers arrived.

Officers received a second call around 5 p.m., that the man had returned to the home. Police found the man in the front yard, who went inside and then the backyard, fleeing from police. Police found the man in a different backyard. The man shot at the officers, prompting the officers to fire back.

“The subject fired at the officers,” said Adrian Cisneros with the El Paso Police Department. “Two officers returned fire, striking the individual and killing him.”

Police have not identified the man, nor did they verify how many shots were fired at the scene.

This investigation is ongoing. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
