A couple was attacked in front of their grandchildren last week in East El Paso.

Police arrested Marco Huerta, 31, after he allegedly stabbed and hit a 56-year-old man as he opened the gate to his home on Saturday. When the man’s wife tried to intervene, Huerta allegedly attacked her by kicking and stomping her in the head.

This entire attack happened in front of the couples’ grandchildren, police said.

The assault took place at about 6:21 a.m. on Dec. 29 in the 10800 block of Cardigan.

When police arrived they found Huerta standing in the middle of the street in the 3300 block of Lee Trevino Drive. He was arrested and taken to the El Paso County Detention Facility under a $200,000 bond.

The couple was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.
