The latest crime data from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPCSO) shows a drop in violent and property crimes in El Paso County in 2017.
According to data provided by EPCSO, compared with 2016, there was a 18% drop in violent crimes and 28% drop in property crimes in 2017.
The murder numbers also substantially dropped for Sheriff’s Office Investigators in 2017. Last year there were two murders and both resulted in arrests from investigators. By comparison, in 2016 there were six murders and one of those is still under investigation.
Since taking office in 2009, Sheriff Wiles’ staff has reduced crime in the County by 43%. Most notably a 50% drop in property crimes has occurred within the County since 2009.
The Sheriff’s Office credits their dedicated deputies along with the cooperation from other neighboring law enforcement agencies including federal, state and local entities. They also say an increase in participation in programs such as Crime Stoppers and Neighborhood Watch has led to the significant decrease in crime.
