An East El Paso shopping center went up in flames early Sunday morning after a fire started in a vacant storefront.

The fire began around 4:30 a.m. at the shopping center located at 3333 N. Yarbrough Drive. Lowe’s Big 8, Barrel House Liquors, Harbor Freight, and Special Edition Lounge are just a few businesses located in the strip where the fire began.

The fire was upgraded to a serious Condition 4 fire by 4:42 a.m. and was contained about 15 minutes later. Sixteen units and 35 firefighters responded to the scene.

El Paso Fire Department is investigating the cause. KTSM spoke with a manager at the Lowe’s Big 8 store who said the store did not sustain major damage and would be open by noon on Sunday. Adjacent Barrel House Liquors is closed on Sunday and could not be immediately reached.
