A contractor with William Beaumont Army Medical died while performing elevator maintenance at the hospital Tuesday afternoon.
The incident happened around 12:45 p.m. when the contractor was found unresponsive.
A witness who contacted KTSM said the contractor was found on top of the elevator on the 9th floor. The witness claimed that it appeared the man may have been electrocuted prior to being found in the elevator shaft.
Officials with WBAMC were not able to confirm the details given to KTSM the cause of death.
The witness said the contractor worked for Abell Elevator International, which officials at WBAMC confirmed to KTSM. When contacted by KTSM for more information, the office manager said she could not comment.
According to officials, staff at WBAMC attempted to render first aid to the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
WBAMC and Fort Bliss Military Police are working together in the investigation into the contractor’s death.
Officials with the hospital say the man’s family has been contacted and is asking for privacy.
William Beaumont Army Medical Center command said they give their sincere condolences to the employee’s family and will be providing emotional and physical support during their time of grief.
