El Paso added 7,300 jobs in 2018, according to Workforce Solutions Borderplex

With more development around the Borderland, job opportunities are also on the rise.

According to Workforce Solutions Borderplex, 7,300 jobs in construction, professional business services, education, and healthcare were added to the community in 2018.

Many El Pasoans are taking advantage of this booming job market by trying to pursue their ideal careers.

“El Paso is bringing new entertainment, retail jobs, and shopping malls,” Cosima Lopez tells KTSM. “Not only can you get a job as a sales associate, but if you have a marketing degree or advertising degree, you can not only work as a manager but as as brand manager.”

While there are more job opportunities in the community, many recent college graduates may still face some challenges.

“What we’re seeing is that employers really do value experience and so college students or graduates have a great challenge in finding work than someone with years of experience,” Industry Project Manager Natalie Littlefield said.

Although finding jobs may be difficult, it’s not stopping graduates from becoming part of the borderland’s growth.

“El Paso is always looking for new things to do and I think as long as they continue supporting creative and other industries, people will realize that there are jobs for people who are coming out of college,” Lopez said. “That they’re not just doing what their parents did. They can graduate and stay in El Paso and  help the city that they grew up in, grow.”

Workforce Solutions Borderplex says it’s seen job growth increase over the past few years, and hasn’t been this high since 1969.
