Protesters momentarily detained under Paso Del Norte Bridge

A group of about three protesters was momentarily detained near the Paso Del Norte Bridge around 9 a.m. Saturday morning as they arrived to voice their opposition to migrant families behind detained in a chain-link fenced area under the bridge.

KTSM was the only local media station at the scene as El Paso Police immediately approached the group as they walked along the sidewalk. A police lieutenant advised the three protesters that they matched the descriptions of individuals wanted in connection to the vandalization of the Border Patrol Museum in February.

After being detained for approximately 15 minutes, officers on the scene returned and told the three that they were clear to go after a warrant search returned no matches to them.

The National Lawyers Guild of El Paso released a statement Saturday evening reminding anyone participating in rallies of their First Amendment Rights as a result of this incident.
