U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials say more than 250 immigrants were apprehended near the remote area of Presidio in the Big Bend sector over the weekend.
The apprehensions included two larger groups of immigrants beginning late Thursday evening when agents were informed of a large group attempting to cross the border into Presidio. Agents who responded located 56 migrants and took them into custody without incident.
The second group of 19 were taken into custody early Friday morning and agents took an additional 176 immigrants into custody between Saturday and Sunday.
“The significant number of arrests by Presidio Station agents is evidence that the dramatic increase in illegal entries along the southern border is impacting us locally.” Chief Hudak added,
In total, the Big Bend Sector has taken 648 immigrants from Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvator into custody in the first 13 days of May.
