219 migrants apprehended near Downtown El Paso

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – More than 200 migrants were apprehended near Downtown El Paso on Wednesday morning, officials said.

According to a Border Patrol news release, 219 people were found illegally entering the country at about 2:10 a.m. on May 1. 

The group was one for three apprehended along the border within a 24-hour period.

The other two groups were:

  • 243 people at 1:30 a.m. May 1 at Antelope Wells.
  • 209 people on May 2 at Antelope Wells.

The total number of individuals apprehended over the 24 hour period was 670.

“This is an ongoing situation that Border Patrol Agents face in southern New Mexico and El Paso, Texas: hundreds of parents and children are being encountered by agents after having faced a dangerous trek north in the hands of unscrupulous smugglers,” the release said.
