Dona Ana County one of many counties across New Mexico to see a surge in early voting numbers.
According to the New Mexico Security of State there has been 352,497 votes cast across the state of New Mexico as of November 1.
Out of the total number of ballots cast across New Mexico, 30,358 of those were cast from Dona Ana County.
Dona Ana County Clerk Amanda Lopez Askin tells KTSM that she contributes the surge of early voting to multiple reasons.
“We know that there are some high profile seats up this year in New Mexico, that could contribute to it. There is almost a national energy of voting that could also contribute to it,” said Lopez Askin.
This is the first election since 2010 with an open seat for New Mexico governor.
Lopez Askin also wants to remind voters that you do not have to go vote at a polling place within your district. You can now cast your ballot at any location across the city come election day on Tuesday November 6, 2018.
Early voting across New Mexico will conclude Saturday November 3, 2018. Click here for a full list of voting locations.
