Earth Day is April 22nd, but we all can help the earth and environment every day! Subaru Loves the Earth and is proud to help preserve the environment for future generations. All Subaru products are manufactured in zero-landfill production plants and all Subaru locations practice recycling. Through the Subaru Loves the Earth initiative, so far, over 5,000,000 pieces of trash such as coffee capsules, disposable cups and straws have been diverted from local landfills. At Subaru El Paso, everyone is proud to help with this initiative. To help celebrate Earth Day, and the opportunity to aid the environment every day, below are some fun tips from the Subaru El Paso team members on what you can do to help preserve the environment. Remember, every little bit helps!
Here’s a look at what CAN be dropped in the blue recycling bins: Plastic, Paper, Aluminum and Cardboard. Simple! And here’s WHAT NOT to put in the blue bins: Yard Waste, Glass and items with food residue. Switch out your regular batteries to rechargeable batteries. They have a higher performance capacity than alkaline batteries and are much more efficient, and of course, produce less waste. Get this, they can be recharged and reused up to 500 times! When plastic water bottles are not recycled, they end up spending years in landfills. When you recycle them, you can lower the amount of waste that contributes to landfills, which also helps in preventing them ending up in our oceans and roadways. Just drop it in the blue bin! What do you do with your phone once it goes kaput? Don’t just toss it in the trash, many cellphone providers will recycle your phone when you get a new one. There are also local electronics recycling depots, too. Who doesn’t have tons of plastic bags piling up inside the pantry? You can take them to a local grocery store and drop-off in their recycle bin, or you can start using a personal bag on your shopping trips to save using the plastic bags. Every little effort helps. Bring a little green into your office! If you have a green thumb, you can try making old liter pop bottle or empty jars into planters for flowers and herbs. Don’t spend too much money on house décor – visit your local second hand store and find a repurposing project. This mirror didn’t have the prettiest frame, but once spray painted a nice crème color, it looks great! Have some crafty talents? Use it to repurpose something old, into something new! This purse is made out of men’s suit jackets. You’ll definitely stand out by making your own creations. Done with snacking? Everyone at Subaru El Paso, and all Subaru locations, throws away the empty packages into the green box located inside the dealerships; all these are taken and recycled into a bench for each location to use. How neat!
