Woman accused of Sunland Park arson that killed 8-year-old girl pleads not guilty

A woman accused of starting a fire that killed an 8-year-old Sunland Park girl last month told a judge she is not guilty on Monday.

Jocelyn Ontiveros, 30, is being held without bond in connection with a Dec. 13 fire in the 100 block of Mesquite Drive that killed Marissa Muñoz and injured two others.

She pleaded not guilty during arraignment hearings in Courtroom 8 at the Third Judicial District Court, according to court staff. 

Meanwhile, Juan Carlos Holguin, 42, had his arraignment hearing postponed because his lawyer was not present, staff confirmed. He is facing similar charges to Ontiveros. 

Ontiveros is facing 19 charges including arson and child abuse, while Holguin is facing 26 charges ranging from arson to assault with intent to commit a violent felony.
