A man wanted on multiple warrants is behind bars following a scuffle with a deputy at a Canutillo convenience store on Friday.

According to a news release, the Precinct 3 deputy constable was providing security at the Petro Stopping Center located at 601 Westway when a clerk alerted him to a man in the store who previously stole merchandise.

The deputy tried to contact the man, Adrian Jaime Gonzalez, 24, who then allegedly became uncooperative.

Officials say Gonzalez resisted arrest, leading to a brief scuffle. The deputy later took him into custody.

According to the release, the deputy found unpaid items inside the suspect’s pockets as he was detaining him.

A warrant check later revealed that Gonzalez had warrants for resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance, robbery, assault family violence, impeding breath or circulation, and evading arrest with previous convictions.

Gonzalez is being held at the El Paso County Jail under a $192,000 bond. Additional charges are pending.
