Two suspects are behind bars after a teenager was shot and seriously injured in an Internet-arranged drug deal in East El Paso earlier this month.

According to a news release, the incident happened at about 8 p.m. on December 3 at an apartment complex located at 9375 Viscount.

Police say Matthew Alexander Perez, 18, and Jaime Aranda III, 17, presented the victim, Jose Luis Nieves, 18, with a small amount of drugs and demanded money at gunpoint.

According to the release, Nieves proceeded to give them the money and grabbed the bag of drugs. He was shot as he ran away.

Nieves was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Police say both suspects turned themselves in and were booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on aggravated assault charges.

Perez is being held under a $100,000 bond, while Aranda’s bond was set at $250,000.
