Crime

The trial date is set for the local boxer accused of driving drunk and killing three people in 2014.

Joel Garcia is scheduled to appear in court on September 13.

According to court documents, Garcia allegedly hit and killed brothers Joshua and Isaiah Deal and Shannon Del Rio on Dec. 24 at the intersection of Joe Battle and Vista Del Sol.

As KTSM previously reported, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals officially ruled out blood evidence drawn from Garcia at the morning of the crash, saying police drew it without a warrant.

Court documents state Garcia’s blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit, and that he also tested positive for cocaine.
