Two teens were taken into custody during the El Paso’s County Sheriff’s Office’s “Desert Operation” in Far East El Paso.

As KTSM previously reported, the operation aimed to curb partying, underage drinking, gang activity, and other crimes in the desert area surrounding the Socorro ISD Student Activities Center (SAC).

According to a news release, Damian Estrada and Joseph Banda, both 17, were arrested after deputies seized a handgun and narcotics during a traffic stop on the 500 block of Lanner.

Both teens were later booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility.

Officials say Estrada is charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 2>=1G<4G and Possession of Marijuana under 2 oz.

Banda was booked on an outstanding criminal warrant for Theft of Firearm.

The El Paso’s County Sheriff’s Office is also reminding the community that a burn ban and curfew ordinances are in effect.
