An 18-year-old girl has been charged in a Labor Day weekend crash on Railroad Drive in Northeast El Paso that killed one of her friends and injured several others.
Nancy Huerta, of Chaparral, was driving south in the 10600 block of Railroad at a high rate of speed when she hit a raised curb, causing the vehicle to roll several times, the El Paso Police Department said on Sept. 3.
On Oct. 31, police arrested Huerta on suspicion of intoxicated assault and intoxicated manslaughter, according to court records.
The rear passengers were not wearing seatbelts and were ejected. Aron Jurado, 18, died from his injuries, while Jonathan Rios, 17, suffered serious injuries, police said.
Two other men fled the scene.
Huerta was wearing her seatbelt and only suffered non-life threatening injuries. Police said failure to control her speed and alcohol contributed to the accident.
