EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – The seasonal coach at Santa Teresa Middle School allegedly asked a student for kisses and to “hook up,” according to court documents.
Matthew Soto, 30, was arrested on Wednesday by the Sunland Park Police Department and is facing one count of child solicitation by an electronic device and two counts of criminal sexual communication with a child.
According to a statement of facts in support of a criminal complaint filed in court, the investigation into Soto began on Monday when a friend of the victim told police about the conversations.
According to multiple interviews, a student at Santa Teresa Middle School reached out to Soto for guidance through Snapchat, but the conversation turned into flirting.
During an interview with detectives, Soto admitted to asking for a kiss for his birthday and to telling the student that he wanted to “hook up,” the documents said.
When detectives asked him what “hooking up” meant, he said it was sex, the documents said.
Soto also admitted that he offered to remove her from school to “hook up,” and sending her photos of his upper body, the document said.
The victim told officers that Soto asked her to “have a child with him,” and that he was willing to wait for her until she turned 18 so they could be together,” the document said.
At one point the student did block Soto, the document said.
The statements were used to obtain an arrest warrant for Soto, which was executed on Wednesday.
Soto is being held without bond.
