El Paso County Constables from precincts 1, 4, and 6 joined forces on Saturday to patrol the streets as part of “Operation: Keep El Paso Safe”.

According to a news release, constables had a total of 83 contacts with individuals, executed 11 warrants, collected $3,727 in traffic fines, arrested one drunk driving suspect, and took two others into custody for unknown offenses.

No traffic accidents or deaths were reported during the operation, officials say.

“We want to make sure everyone is safe while they’re out driving, not just during the holidays but all the time.” Precinct 1 Constable Oscar Ugarte stated. “We also want to provide an opportunity for people with warrants to pay them off as opposed to going to jail.”

“Operation: Keep El Paso Safe” will continue into 2019 and will be conducted on unannounced dates.
