A shooting involving Horizon Police Department officers happened overnight following a car chase.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation into the shooting which happened at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday.
The incident started in the 14000 block of Jeweled Desert when Horizon Police Department officers were trying to pull over a vehicle that was going 80 mph in a 35 mph zone, but the driver refused to stop.
The sheriff’s office said Sergio Gonzalez, 25, was the driver.
The vehicle was eventually cornered in a cul de sac at Roslyn and Jeweled Desert but as officers approached the vehicle it accelerated towards the officers and hit one in the leg and then crashed into a patrol unit.
Officers fired their weapons at the vehicle as it fled and the chase continued a little while longer before Gonzalez stopped and was arrested.
No one was hit or injured as a result of the gunshots, but the incident is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office’s Major Crimes Unit and the Texas Rangers, which is standard in an officer-involved shooting.
Gonzalez was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on suspicion of aggravated assault on a public servant.
