New Mexico school bus driver allegedly rapes child on bus

CHAMA, NM (KTSM) – A New Mexico school bus driver allegedly raped a 7-year-old girl inside a school bus, New Mexico State police said.

Stephen George Meek, 66, is charged with criminal sexual penetration.

State police said Meek, who is from Tierra Amarilla, had dropped off all but one of the students from the Chamam NM School District on Wednesday.

Investigators said Meek then pulled over to the side of the road and allegedly raped the girl.

A driver, who ended up knowing the accuser, told investigators they saw the bus and turned around thinking the driver was experiencing mechanical issues.

When the motorists approached, they said the school bus took off and pulled over a second time a short time later.

The driver again approached the bus, and Meek reportedly waved at them before driving off a second time.

Investigators said the motorist recognized the child and contacted her family, who then contacted state police.

State police arrested Meek the following day. He’s also charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and enticement of a child.
