Police have identified the man who was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of shooting a police officer.
Ricardo Cereceres, 41, is accused of shooting at two officers, wounding one, at about 12:10 p.m. Tuesday in South-Central El Paso.
He is facing attempted capital murder charges and his bond is set at $2 million. He is also being held on no bond for a federal weapons warrant.
Officer E. Bermudez and Officer E. Villalobos were patrolling the 5900 block of Alameda when they came upon Cereceres, who then ran from officers.
Cereceres ran to a business in the 5800 block of Alameda and “ambushed and fired upon the officers in the patrol car.” The officers returned fire and crashed behind the business.
Bermudez was taken to UMC with a gunshot wound to his right hand, while officers narrowed their search for Cereceres to the 100 block of N. Clark, where Cereceres was arrested Tuesday night.
