Man injures elderly employee while robbing Socorro grocery store


The Socorro Police Department needs your help finding the man accused of robbing a Socorro grocery store, and injuring an elderly employee in the process.

According to a news release, the incident happened the night of Dec. 19 at Abuelita’s Grocery Store located at 11536 Socorro Road.

Officials say the man walked in the store, confronted two employees with a handgun, and demanded money.

He then reportedly struck a 73-year-old employee on the head with an unknown object and pushed him to the floor.

According to the release, the man fired one shot from the handgun towards a cooler before leaving the store with an undisclosed amount of money.

The suspect is described as a 5’8″ Hispanic man with a goatee and stocky build. He was seen wearing a gray hooded sweater, gray sweatpants, and black Nike running shoes.

Witnesses reported seeing the man heading southbound on Madrigal Road.
