Man driving without license plate found with more than 160 pounds of marijuana

A Las Cruces man is in jail after police discovered more than 160 pounds of marijuana in his car during a traffic stop in East El Paso.

According to a news release, Fernando Garza, 22, was driving near Montana and Saul Kleinfeld at about 5:45 p.m. Friday when police pulled him over for not having a rear license plate.

During the traffic stop, a police dog found 150 bundles of marijuana weighing 164.45 pounds.

Garza is charged with Possession of Marijuana >50 pounds <= 2,000 pounds.

He was booked into the El Paso County Jail under a $50,000 bond.
