A man is dead after being shot during an encounter with El Paso sheriff’s deputies in Canutillo Thursday afternoon.
According to an El Paso County Sheriff’s Office spokesman, three deputies responded at about 12:45 p.m. to a verbal disturbance call at the home located on Third Road.
Officials say the suspect, 20, approached deputies with a shotgun inside the home, prompting them to return fire.
He was shot at least once in the torso, according to the spokesman.
The man was taken to University Medical Center where he died at about 3 p.m.
No deputies were injured.
The incident remains under investigation.

According to a sheriff’s office spokeswoman, the shooting happened before 3 p.m. near the intersection of Talbot Avenue and Third Street in Canutillo.
The intersection is currently blocked off; drivers are asked to avoid the area.
Officials have not yet released whether the deputy was injured or if a suspect has been taken into custody.
