Man attempts to swallow cocaine during traffic stop, authorities say


A Socorro man is in jail on drug charges following a traffic stop in San Elizario Saturday night.

According to the San Elizario Marshals Office, deputy marshals pulled over Ricardo Ruiz just before 10 p.m. for a traffic violation on the 12000 block of Socorro Road.

While authorities were identifying a passenger, Ruiz allegedly attempted to swallow several grams of cocaine.

Ruiz was booked into the El Paso County Jail for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Tampering with Evidence.

His bonds total $20,000.
