Man arrested in East El Paso SWAT situation



A man has been arrested following an hours-long SWAT situation in East El Paso Thursday morning.

Police say Christopher Andrew Acuna, 21, allegedly shot a woman and refused to leave the home for six hours.

The victim was able to escape unharmed, according to police.

He was charged with Aggravated Assault and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility under a $100,000 bond.


The SWAT team has been sent out to an East El Paso house, according to the El Paso Police Department.

The call came in around 5:30 a.m. and units are set up in the 3000 block of Bert Yancey. Pebble Hills has been closed from Beachcomber to Red Sails. 

A Police Department spokesman said they were originally responding to a family violence situation where a man allegedly shot at a woman, who was able to escape the house.

Police said the man barricaded himself in the home and has at least one handgun. 

One KTSM viewer saw the SWAT team vehicle in the neighborhood. Police also confirmed the Crisis Management Team is also on the scene. 

Stephen Rosas, a neighbor has shared a video with KTSM showing a man possibly talking to police from the entrance of his house. Police are trying to convince him to exit. It is unknown how this man is involved in the situation but the viewer believes he is the suspect. 

Police have not released any details but are expected to give an update at the scene.

The El Paso Fire Department has also been called out to the scene, but not for a fire, according to the Public Alert and Incident Notification page.
