A Las Cruces man was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after deputies found his vehicle stopped on the railroad tracks.

Jose Avalos was allegedly in a drunk and was parked on the tracks at about 5:30 p.m. near N.M. 478 and mile marker 13. The vehicle was spotted by Police with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway.

“When deputies arrived, the alleged driver of the vehicle, Jose Avalos, reportedly had an open container in the vehicle and told deputies he had been drinking earlier,” a sheriff’s news release said. “Deputies learned Avalos had a revoked driver’s license and five previous DWI convictions.”

Avalos was arrested and booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center where he is being held without bond.
