A Las Cruces man allegedly choked his pregnant girlfriend and held her against her will earlier this week.
Daniel Madrid, 20, was arrested by the Las Cruces Police Department on suspicion of aggravated battery against a household member, false imprisonment and interference with communications.
A news release from police said that Madrid got into an argument with his girlfriend, who is 8-months pregnant, at about 8 p.m. on April 9 before assaulting her.
Madrid allegedly held his girlfriend down and prevented her from leaving.
When the girlfriend did leave the residence and sought a neighbor’s help, Madrid allegedly grabbed her from behind with his arm around her neck and covered her nose and mouth with his free hand, police said.
The girlfriend broke free and ran across the street where she called 911, police said.
When an officer arrived, Madrid was arrested and later booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center, where he currently has no bond.
