A man was arrested Thursday afternoon following an altercation and two shots fired calls, police said.
Jose Luis Vela, 21, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of deadly drugs and possession of drugs, a release from the El Paso Police Department said.
The department’s Gang unit was called in to assist with a shots fired call in the 3100 block of Pera where they learned three people were in an altercation on the street.
Two of the individuals allegedly left the scene, but one of them fired back at the third person, who was identified as Vela, the release said.
Vela and another person entered a white convertible and drove away. Moments after that, another shots fired call, involving a similar vehicle, was reported at an apartment complex in the 3900 block of Chester, the release said.
“Investigators found that Vela had fired shots at a residence at the 3900 block of Chester,” the release said. “Responding officers located the white convertible and Vela at an apartment complex in the 3100 block of Pera. A search of Vela’s apartment led to the discovery of a rifle, approximately 14 pounds of THC, 71 grams of marijuana, and 17 grams of cocaine.”
Vela was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on bonds totaling $176,000.
Police said the investigation is on-going and there could still be more arrests and charges coming.
