EPPD: Intoxicated man arrested after claiming to have explosive

A man claiming to have an explosive device in Downtown El Paso is now behind bars on public intoxication charges.

Police say the incident was reported at about 5:30 p.m. on 601 S. Santa Fe near the Sun Metro station.

According to a news release, the man was holding a container and said it contained an explosive.

The area was closed off for more than an hour as the incident unfolded.
