The El Paso Police Department released the name of a man who was arrested following a SWAT standoff Tuesday night on the East side.

Robert Walsmith, 46, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon at about 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 29 in the 7200 block of Dempsey Ave, according to an El Paso Police Department news release.

Police said they were originally responding to a family violence call. They were able to ensure the safety of the victims, but Walsmith allegedly refused to exit the home, police said.

Walsmith eventually exited the home and was taken into custody. He was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on a $50,000 bond.

No details on the original family violence call were released by police.

Both the SWAT team and the Crisis Management Team were on the scene, police said.
