Over the course of 25 hours, police arrested 18 drunk drivers in El Paso on Sunday.
The arrests happened on Super Bowl Sunday, although they were not exclusive to the time that the game was on TV. The arrests started past midnight on Sunday morning.
The first arrest happened at about 12:54 a.m. on Sunday and the final arrest was at 2:16 a.m. Monday, the El Paso Police Department said in a news release.
Of those arrests, 11 were for driving while intoxicated, five for DWI with blood alcohol level greater than .15 and three for their third DWI or more, the release said.
One of the suspects arrested for multiple DWI’s was Enrique Lopez, 44. Police said he has been convicted of DWI six times, the release said.
Officers said they saw Lopez driving without his lights at about 2 a.m. Sunday on Zaragoza. As police pulled him over, he hit a raised curb as he missed a business driveway, the release said.
He was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Jail with a $10,000 bond.
