A home intruder was shot by a man defending his family Monday night in the Lower Valley.

The shooting occurred in the 600 block of Rose Kennedy Drive. The location is across the street from Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Police said that Edgar Arturo Mendoza, 23, shot Robert Quintana, 40, during a confrontation.

According to a news release, Quintana allegedly showed up at Mendoza’s house with a knife and threatened to kill Mendoza.

“The victim fearing for his safety and his family’s shot the offender. The offender was transported to a local hospital where he is currently in the Intensive Care Unit,” the news release said.

Police said the Crimes Against Persons Unit discovered that there has been an ongoing feud between Mendoza’s brother and Quintana’s brother.

Police are still investigating the shooting.
