Convicted felon from Guatemala caught trying to cross into El Paso

A convicted felon from Guatemala was caught by Border Patrol trying to enter the country near the Bridge of Americas Port of Entry.

Lauro Garcia-Perez, 45, and his son were arrested by agents on Jan. 24. During their processing, they discovered that he was convicted of burglary in New Jersey, as well as being charged in 2005 for aggravated assault, aggravated sexual assault during a robbery and criminal sexual contact, according to a Border Patrol news release.

Both Garcia-Perez and his son have immigration proceedings pending, the release said.
