A Mexican restaurant in Downtown El Paso is now open for business and bringing different parts of Mexico into the kitchen.
It all starts with corn.
Elemi restaurant has been serving lunch but starting next Tuesday it will also be open for dinner.
It started when Chef Emiliano Marentes was a boy, working at a tortilleria, thinking how he can make the tortillas taste more like the ones he tasted from Mexico.
Marentes said the tortillas at Elemi are made the old fashioned way, making his menu healthy as well as tasty.
After working as a chef at other restaurants, he and his wife Kristal decided it was time to bring their take of modern Mexican cusine to El Paso.
“It feels amazing because I always believed in him. I always knew it was time for him to open his own place. It’s not just his passion but you can feel the love in his food,” said Kristal Marentes.
She wants the restaurant to feel more like a home with Mexican decor and even La Loteria game pieces instead of of typical table numbers.
The tortillas a cooked by the chef’s mother and mother in law. Anyone who likes the tortillas can buy them by the pack.
Elemi Resturant is located at 313 N Kansas St, El Paso, TX 79901.
