A portion of the Charles Leavell Recreation Center – a place for fun and team-building at the Lee & Beulah Moor Children’s Home – will undergo a remodeling project thanks to a $10,000 donation from the Security Service Federal Credit Union Charitable Foundation.
“We are thrilled and immensely grateful to receive such a generous donation from Security Service, which continues to be an important advocate of our organization and the children we serve,” said Renée Tanner, Chief Executive Officer for the Lee & Beulah Moor Children’s Home. “As anyone can imagine, our campus and the amenities we offer must be kept up to date so that we can continue to safely and effectively serve the needs of our children – and those needs include playtime!”
The Charles Leavell Recreation Center is a place where children of the Lee & Beulah Moor Children’s Home enjoy activities such as basketball, tennis, exercise, games and movie nights in a protected and well-supervised environment. Activities and Recreational Programs Coordinator Ronnie Rodriguez said she sees a positive transformation in the children she works with.
“We have kids who understandably start off shy or reserved, and then through team sports and other activities we have every week, they start to come out of their shells and feel more confident about themselves,” Rodriguez said. “The time they spend at the gym and weight room also helps improve their overall health.
“In a world where we’re often glued to our cell phones, it’s nice to see our kids thrive in social and collaborative settings because of the opportunities they have here,” Rodriguez added.
The recreation center’s upcoming remodeling project is one of the many ways the Lee & Beulah Moor Children’s Home will continue to provide and expand its countless services to El Paso youth and families in need.
