Susy Castillo is an anchor/reporter at KTSM 9 News.
Susy was born in Sacramento but was raised in El Paso since she was 4 years old. Her interest in journalism was sparked while attending Socorro High School where she was part of the yearbook club and Media Technology class. In that media tech class, she would help produce and anchor the all student newscast that helped share the morning announcements with the entire campus.
She got her Associate’s Degree in Radio/ TV Broadcast from El Paso Community College where she was a reporter for the student newspaper Tejano Tribune. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in English/ Journalism from New Mexico State University where she was also part of the student run newscast News 22.
Susy’s first journalism job out of college was in Albuquerque, NM at KRQE where she was a news producer for four years. She started her on-air career as an anchor/reporter in San Angelo, TX. She joined the KTSM team in 2018 because she wanted to be back home to raise her son in the community where she grew up.
She loves animals. From cats and dogs to giraffes and snakes. That’s why she enjoys working on animal related segments for the Noon newscast she anchors. You can find more about critters Mondays at Noon during Mutt Mondays and Tuesdays at Noon during KTSM Goes Wild.
In her spare time, she likes trying different locally-owned restaurants and learning about unique businesses.
