This Week's Weather Story

A bit of a soggy, gray skied, and cool start to our week; turning a bit drier the rest of the week. Through noon today we've only picked up .02 inches of rain officially in El Paso last 3 days. But rain is still possible through your Tuesday night and into your Wednesday. After Wednesday into the weekend only spotty thunderstorms will be possible as our plume of monsoon moisture gets shunted off to the south. An upper level High pressure will begin nudging east, bringing more sunshine and more seasonal temps back into the 90s. We will still have leftover moisture, which will contribute to daily doses of spotty thunderstorms, most of which will pop up along the higher terrain. We can't rule out rain the rest of the week, but widespread cloud cover will be unlikely after Wednesday. By early next week there are some indications that the monsoon will make a come back after this short break in the rain/clouds. Stay tuned for more information on that. For the year as of today, August 25th, we are running some 1.22" inches below normal in the precipitation department. We have lots of ground to make up and typically the monsoon lasts through the middle of September, though it could end sooner or last longer. 2009 in El Paso has officially seen 4.18" inches of rain. On this day last year we had picked up 6.60" to this point, on our way to 9 plus inches for the year. By the way, yesterday's high temperature of 87 was the coolest figure we'd seen in El Paso since June 23rd, where we also saw a high of 87 after picking up .09" of precipitation. We saw a string of 61 straight days of 90+ weather broken yesterday.
