This Week's Weather Story
August 18, 2009 - 10:58am

The likely hood of us seeing significant and much needed rain in the Borderland this week remains low. In addition to this our hot weather pattern will continue. Thirty year normal high temps this time of year ranges in the low 90s. This is partially because we are in the final month of meteorological summer and partially because the summer monsoon season is usually in high gear at this time. However, mother nature knows no rules. Expect the heat to continue through Friday because of a big upper level ridge in the jetstream, shown in the image above. There will be a trough that slides through the center of the nation on Friday that could send a cool front our way into the weekend. Before that happens however, temperatures in the Borderland will continue to run 8 to 12 degrees above normal. We'll also be lacking sufficient monsoon moisture to see any widespread significant rains.
